It’s officially my favorite time of year and I need to celebrate in the best way that I know how – with some music! The sun is out, the fun is in high gear, and the living is easy; there are so many thing to like about summer so I’m playing the jazz classic “Summertime”. This has been played so many different ways by everyone from Miles Davis to Billie Holiday, Sam Cooke, and even Olivia Newton-John. Of course, I wanted to give my version a Latin Jazz groove, so I put this classic tune over a driving Cha Cha Cha. I was picturing this one sung by a sultry baritone voice, so I had to give the melody to my upright bass. Of course, there’s solos all the way around, framed by a montuno on my six string electric bass. This was a fun one for me to pull together and it certainly marks the beginning of the season – I hope you enjoy!
