When I started exploring the world of Latin Jazz, one of the first musicians that I heard was Tito Puente. He captivated me from the start for lots of reasons – his groove was unstoppable, his virtuosity as a soloist was unmatchable, and his compositions were unforgettable. The influence of Tito’s music has stuck with me to this day, and as I continue to build towards the bajo y clave project, I’ve got Tito in the back of my mind. So this week, I had to pay tribute to Tito with one of his classic jams – Mambo Diablo. This one is just such a great tune to stretch out on, I knew I had to bring all my basses into the mix. Viva Puente!
