As I integrate more Brazilian music into the bajo y clave project, I’m exploring the music’s great composers and there’s no Brazilian composer more well known than Antonio Carlos Jobim. His beautifully memorable melodies and rich harmonies left an impression on the world and many of these songs are part of our popular consciousness. His connection to the jazz world has always been a strong bridge into Brazilian music for me – I’ve played many of his songs often and will continue to do so.
Jobim has so many great songs, but one of my favorites has always been Dindi. The catchy melody and clever chord progression just sticks with me. I’ve played it in a number of contexts, but I always come back to it and find something new. This time around, I’ve applied my two handed tapping technique to the melody and groove, which brought the tune into a new light for me. I couldn’t resist some solos on my upright and six string – there’s even some effects fun with my six string!
Enjoy!
